Instruction

The Director of Instruction plans, implements, and evaluates the total instructional program (pre-K – 12). Mrs. Honaker began in Madison County in 1989 as an English teacher at Madison County High School, where she taught and sponsored the yearbook, newspaper, and literary magazine for 17 years. She began working at the central office in August, 2005. She resides in Madison with her husband and two children.
Her goals for the year are to:
- Encourage and assist teachers as they work to create innovative ways to expand the curriculum for all students.
- Enhance professional development opportunities for staff to improve their instruction.
- Develop expanded opportunities for students outside the classroom through after-school activities.
In addition to directing the PreK-12 instructional program, Mrs. Honaker
- plans, implements, monitors, and reports on the Standards of Quality and Standards of Learning
- supervises the gifted, summer school, Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School, and alternative education programs
- supervises the Title I and Title II federal programs
- supervises the identification, selection, and use of appropriate instructional materials
- assists in the supervision of teachers
- supervises the new teacher mentor program
- provides leadership for professional development programs
- supervises budget items related to all areas of instruction, staff development, and pupil services programs
